The world’s biggest whiskey producer has announced its new plastic-free bottle.

Diageo, in collaboration with Unilever and PepsiCo, has created a whiskey bottle made entirely from sustainably sourced wood.

The ‘paper’ bottle design will make its debut in 2021 with Johnnie Walker

The bottle was designed and developed by Pulpex Limited to be the first scalable and fully recyclable paper-based spirit bottle.

It is made from sustainably sourced wood pulp. Diageo says the technology will allow brands to “rethink their packaging designs or move existing designs into paper, whilst not compromising on quality”.

The technology from Pulpex allows for a variety of single-mold bottle designs to be used across a variety of liquid products.

This move is part of a much larger sustainability initiative sweeping the beverage industry.

Last week, Evian launched its new label-free, 100% recyclable, 100% recycled bottle.

Carlsberg released the world’s first paper beer bottle in late 2019.

And Coca Cola is not far behind with the development of their own plant-based bottles

Society continues to push forward towards a plastic-less future.
