Today we’re going to combine two breath practices together; the Optimal Breathing Rhythm and Breath Retention.
The health benefits of breathing in a 5-5 Optimal pattern are well-documented and include reduced stress and anxiety, increased blood flow to the brain, and improved function of the cardiovascular, circulatory, and nervous systems.
Breath retention, or breath-holding, is a newer exercise that has gained popularity from people like Wim Hof.
Breath holds are still being studied but some reported benefits are reduced inflammation, increased white and red blood cell production, and decreased cortisol, also known as the stress hormone.
This brand new exercise will utilize both techniques.
