What do tech giants like Facebook, Google, and IBM have in common?
They are hiring artists to work alongside their scientists.
The practice is meant to promote creativity, and in many instances, it’s worked quite well. Smaller companies are beginning to catch on, particularly in the biotech industry where some companies are having artists observe experiments and create installations based on their perceptions.
Artists tend to view the world from a different perspective than scientists and this partnership creates a dialog between the two worlds, sparking ideas on both sides.
Involvement with the arts has been proven to correlate with successes in science, particularly among past Nobel Prize winners, making the partnership between both sides a no-brainer.
