Scientists at UC San Francisco have created an app that allows anyone in the world age 18 or over to join in the fight against coronavirus.
The spread of COVID-19 is so widely varied across different populations and regions that it’s making it difficult for doctors to predict and reduce the number of new infections.
They need more data — we can all help.
CO founder of the project Dr. Gregory Marcus said “In the long term, the collective participation of committed individuals in CCS (the project) will help identify behaviors, influences and factors that increase or decrease the risk of infection or that affect outcomes after infection”
“The greater the number of participants, the greater the likelihood of statistically valid findings emerging from the study.”
This project is a prime example of the power of citizen science. It’s something we can all get involved in and make a tangible impact on the fight against coronavirus.
So, let’s get to it. Click here to download the app.
After you download the app if prompted, enter “covid” as the study key. Then, you’ll be asked to complete an initial 10-minute survey about your health and daily habits. Follow up questions will be delivered on an ongoing basis after that — the total expected time commitment is 10 minutes a week.
