The answer to a healthier, longer life might be in your mouth.

For decades, scientists have suspected a strong link between oral health and inflammatory diseases — particularly the risk of heart attack and stroke. Researchers are able to predict this risk by measuring a specific protein (CRP) in the body.

Now, for the first time, a plant-based toothpaste called Plaque HD has been shown to significantly decrease the levels of this inflammatory protein after daily use. It also removes more than twice the amount of plaque than traditional toothpaste.

The toothpaste temporarily colors the plaque in your mouth so it’s easier to target and brush off, making brushing your teeth almost like a game. Bout’ to get the high score.

The promising results from this study will allow the researchers to move forward with larger, randomized trials. Although right now it’s pricy, large scale testing and production will soon make Plaque HD, and other similar brands, more accessible and affordable.

Dental health is something most of us leave on the back burner. Over 45% of Americans over 30 have some form of periodontal disease. Time to seriously up our game.

The link between longevity and dental health is real. Even though flossing and brushing can feel…inconvenient, the implications to your overall health are clear.
