You really need to drop the device when you’re at home.

I know, we talk about this a lot. But it’s freakin’ important. Research says so. Here are three science-backed reasons to put down the phone when you get home.

It Refreshes Your Mind. A study out of Kansas University shows that when we don’t disconnect after work, our brain doesn’t relax and recoup from the stimulation of the workday. Although browsing your Instagram feed on the couch seems relaxing, try reading a book, playing a board game, or engage in some face-to-face interaction with a friend or family.

Your sleep will improve. If you don’t know the health benefits of a solid night’s sleep, you’re going to want to read this. Folks who spend more time on devices are at a much higher risk of developing sleep disorders and generally have worse sleep patterns. It’s all about that melatonin.

You’ll develop more quality relationships. This might seem obvious, but studies show that staying glued to your phone at home negatively affects your relationships with significant others. Not really a groundbreaking study, but sometimes we forget that what we love the most is right in front of us, not behind a screen.

Thinking of someone who could use a little less screen time in their life? Share this them!
