Don’t Overthink It!

Easier said than done. The fact is that over 70% of 25-35 year-olds are prone to overthinking. 

I’m overthinking that statistic right now. 

It can take many forms: extreme indecisiveness, reading into tiny details, constantly wondering what people think about you. 

Overthinkers constantly run commentaries in their heads, criticizing themselves, contemplating decisions, and worrying about the future. 

Worst of all, overthinking can lead to stress, which is a big no-no. 

So how can we tell the “what ifs” and “should haves” to kick rocks? 

The good news is, as we’ve learned, we can train our brains to break cycles and change perspective. 

The quickest path to getting out of your own head is to reconnect with your immediate world. Begin to notice what you can hear, see, smell, or feel. Taste is great too, but don’t just start tasting things around you. That’s not a good look.

But for real, when you notice more, you think less.

It’s important to understand that focusing your attention outward takes a lot of practice. Just like strengthening any other muscle, the key is repetition and consistency. It’s something you have to work on everyday.
