In this exercise, we’re going to combine the brain benefits of music with the power of affirmations to quickly shift into a more positive state of mind.

As far as affirmations go, they are a scientifically proven way to reduce negative self-talk and boost motivation, focus, productivity, and more.

This exercise is quite simple:

Step 1: Take a minute or two and write down how you are feeling right now. This will help you establish a baseline and gauge how beneficial the exercise is. 

Step 2: Listen to happy, uplifting music for 13 minutes. You can use your own music or try this Youtube playlist. According to BASTs research, 13 minutes is the sweet spot. If you don’t have that much time, try 5 or 10 minutes. During this time, don’t look at your phone or do any other task except…

Step 3: Write down 5 positive affirmations. You can do this either while the music is playing or once it has finished. If you’re having trouble coming up with some, here are some suggestions.

Step 4: Take a minute or two and write down how you feel. Did your mood or mindset change? If you experienced some benefits, try and add this short exercise into your routine! 

Combining music and affirmations is just another way we can influence our minds and shift our mood.
